Mardi Gras Celebrations Around the World

Mardi Gras Celebrations Around the World

Mardi Gras is a celebration that marks the last day of the festival period of Carnival. It also happens to be a holiday associated with some of the biggest festivals worldwide. While it falls on “Fat Tuesday,” which is the final day of indulgence before Lent, the over-the-top festivities begin weeks prior.

No matter where you partake in the many indulgences of Mardi Gras, there are a few things you’re guaranteed to see: lot’s of green, gold and Mardi Gras masks.

If you’re going to party in honor of Mardi Gras, do it big… And if you aren’t heading to a destination celebration, you can find green, gold and the celebratory essence of Mardi Gras in a magnum bottle of Provocativo.

Check out these four Mardi Gras destinations & be sure to bring a bottle (or two) of Provocativo with you.

New Orleans, Louisiana, USA

New Orleans is home to one of the most well-known, larger-than-life Mardi Gras celebrations. The festival dates back to the 1730’s, and has since become a bucket-list location for partiers worldwide. The two-week celebration culminates in an elaborate parade organized by social clubs known as “krewes.” New Orleans is rich with history, and a not-to-be-missed Mardi Gras destination.

Venice, Italy

Venice’s Carnival begins two weeks before Ash Wednesday, and officially ends on Fat Tuesday. These two weeks are filled with events, music and, of course, some of the world’s most extravagant masquerade costumes. However, the best week to attend is the final weekend. It’s known for its elegant events and beautiful costume displays. If you’re headed to Venice, finding an elaborate costume is an essential part of the celebration.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Head to Rio for it’s high-energy attractions, glittery parades and eye-catching performances. Rio’s Carnival is known to be “The Greatest Show on Earth.” The Sambodromo is the meeting point of the Rio de Janeiro Carnival festivities. Locals, tourists and partiers from around the world gather within the stadium to watch the top Samba schools compete for a title. For the entire weekend leading up to Fat Tuesday, the city is alive with stunning performances, live music and world-famous costumes.

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain

Carnival of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is three weeks of celebration, spectacles and themed events. More than 40 acts perform throughout the three weeks, including the world-famous Drag Queen Gala. The festival brings in more than half a million visitors, and hosts attractions for attendees of all ages. Expect vibrant colors, lavish performances and all-day parties that go well into the night.
